Education

At Dorrington Academy we are committed to providing a curriculum that is designed to offer broad, rich and ambitious learning experiences that go beyond the National Curriculum – aiming to inspire, develop, challenge and prepare all pupils for life beyond their primary education.

We believe education is more than academic success; it is about nurturing well-rounded confident and socially responsible individuals equipped with the skills and values needed for secondary school and beyond. We value each child as an individual and ensure that our engaging, imaginative and innovative curriculum allows us to develop the whole child regardless of their starting point.

Our curriculum is designed to develop not only a deep understanding of core academic subjects but also a wide-ranging set of personal and social skills. It fosters curiosity, creativity and a love of learning through a variety of rich and exciting enrichment opportunities. From rock climbing to yoga, trampolining and swimming, cultural and sporting opportunities our pupils are encouraged to explore, experiment and thrive across all areas of learning.

At the heart of our approach is the development of strong personal and social skills. Through our school moto – ‘Together we are Stronger’ and our core value ‘ Be Better Today Than Yesterday ‘ our curriculum promotes resilience, positive attitudes and effective communication.  Through collaboration, pupils learn to work effectively with others, respect diverse viewpoints and build positive relationships.

We place a high value on emotional wellbeing and mental health, providing opportunities for pupils to develop self-awareness, confidence and independence. Through a carefully planned PSHE and RSE curriculum – with Respect at the core – alongside the mindfulness and social emotional learning, we support our pupils in managing their emotions, setting goals and making informed choices.

By offering a curriculum that is both wide and outstanding in its breadth, we ensure that our pupils are ready not only for the academic rigors of their next stage but also for the responsibilities and experiences of modern life.
