Dorrington Academy embraced the spirit of the season by raising an impressive £6,180 for Birmingham Hospice through a festive Reindeer Run.

The whole school put on their reindeer antlers and took part in the fundraising event, and it is estimated that the children collectively ran around 650 miles – which is about a quarter of the distance from the school to Rudolph’s home in Lapland.

John Harrison, Headteacher, said: “Our community here goes above and beyond to support local charities.

“Our pupils really made me proud with this event – raising such a significant amount will make a real difference and help so many people supported by Birmingham Hospice.”

Birmingham Hospice provides vital care and support for people living with terminal illness, as well as their families and carers, across the city.

John Hurley, Community Fundraiser for Education at Birmingham Hospice, said: “When I visited Dorrington Academy to launch their Rudolph Run campaign, I was immediately met with a great sense of community within the school.

“Their community values, which are shared by Birmingham Hospice, have clearly influenced such an amazing fundraising total. The money raised by the school will help us to continue to support families, carers and loved ones through the most difficult times of their lives. We are truly grateful for their support!”

Fundraising events such as the Reindeer Run form part of Dorrington Academy’s wider commitment to supporting its local community. Pupils at Dorrington are encouraged to take part in charitable initiatives where possible to help them understand the impact they can have on the world around them.
